2021 Wrapped 🎁
A group of homegirls and I ended 2020 together discussing what we’d leave behind. We made it real by writing it down on paper.
Yes, an old-fashioned, handwritten letter.
We tossed our letters into a make-believe fire (pulled up a fireplace video on YouTube) — that’s 10-points for creativity!
Afterwards, we wrote letters to our future selves describing in detail the things we wanted to take into 2021. We put each letter in a white 4x9 envelope and agreed to open them at the end of year.
On Sunday, I finally opened the envelope and read my letter.
I didn’t know if I should laugh or cry, but I knew my words carried so many emotions and I felt all of them in that moment.
Here are some of the things 2020 Taiwo told the 2021 version to remember.
Reading my self-addressed letter one year later allowed me to look back with gratitude and look forward with expectation, it taught me;
What is important in the moment might turn out to be minuscule in the grand scheme of things.
Sometimes life turns out different from what we hope, but exactly how it’s supposed to be.
Time is such a valuable thing, treat it as such.
Seeing the words I wrote a year ago on paper reminded me to give myself grace, flowers, and a glass of Moscato because I deserve!
For all those times I doubted, and asked “but when God?” He answered by giving me the gift that is 2021. A year full of mountaintops + valleys, laughter + tears, endings + beginnings – this year was a reminder that my God doesn’t play about His children.
I look forward to reading the letter from 2021 Taiwo next year.
That’s a wrap folks!
