Twenty22 wrapped đź’ť
— As I furiously tap away at my keyboard, Loaded by Asake blares through my airpods, my top artist from 2022 according to both me and Spotify🤝🏾. So, this final journal entry is brought to you by the electric energy of Mr. Money with the vibezzz right now.
It's 3AM eastern time and I'm racing to the airport to catch my final flight of the year. The holiday season has been a whirlwind of family, togetherness, and much-needed rest, but now it's time to say goodbye and head back to reality.
As I sit on the plane, my mind wanders back to all that 2022 has brought my way. It's been a year of highs and lows, of heartache and triumph, of discovery and growth. And as I prepare to close the chapter on this year, I can't help but reflect on all the lessons I've learned along the way.
TL; DR: If each month of 2022 were to speak from my experiences, conversations, books I read, and sermons I heard, these would be the words they would say:
Life is more than accomplishing goals, but rather, a collection of experiences
Obedience isn’t about outcome, it’s about honor
There are lessons you will learn from losing, that winning could never teach you
You’re allowed to be good at multiple things that aren’t related to each other
If you’re looking for a reason why it’s not the right time, you’ll always find one
A packed agenda is not🙅🏾‍♀️ success
The Yoruba🇳🇬 language is a symphony of poetic sounds. She is not your mate.
You do not have to make other people’s problems your own to help them
Nothing is permanent, not even the worse feelingsđź«‚
The combination of Gap x Yeezy hoodie + Ganni Chelsea boots = get you through the coldest winters
The best things are never forced
It’s not about how it adds up in the end, but what you learned along the way🚶🏾‍♀️
Throughout 2022, there were moments when I felt like I was on top of the world, like Burna selling out MSG, when everything seemed to fall into place, and I was unstoppable. But there were also times when I was knocked down and had to pick myself back up again. Through it all, I learned that life is about more than just achieving goals, but rather, the experiences we have and the people we share them with.
I traveled to new countries, met amazing people, and had experiences that will stay with me for a lifetime. I learned that obedience isn't about the outcome, but about honor. And I discovered that sometimes it's the failures and setbacks that teach us the most valuable lessons.
But perhaps the most important lesson I learned this year is that it's not about the end result, but about what we learn along the way (+bathroom photos we take to accompany them). It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, filling our schedules to the brim and trying to be "that girl." But I've learned that true success is not merely about achieving a certain outcome or reaching a predetermined destination. It’s about the process of becoming the best version of ourselves.
As I wrap up 2022 and look ahead to the new year, I'm filled with excitement and hope for all that's to come. I'm ready for the necessary endings and the new beginnings, to take on the challenges and embrace the unknown, armed with all the lessons I've learned this year. And as I do, I hope you'll join me on this journey and use these lessons to guide you as you navigate your own path in 2023.
